Important Information on Grandfather Rights
If you have any questions regarding any Certificates of Competence qualifications, please contact your local training provider. All farmers should now be aware that as of the 26th November 2015 Grandfather Rights for Spray Operators (GFRS) has been replaced by the City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides Replacing Grandfather Rights (QCF). It is now a requirement to hold this qualification or obtain an alternative Certificate of Competence e.g. PA1; PA2; PA4; PA6; PA12.
This applies to those individuals who were born before the 31st December 1964 and who are currently applying plant protection products authorised for professional use on crops, land, produce, materials, and buildings which are owned, occupied or rented by them or their employer.
If someone applies a product that requires the user to be a ‘professional’ then the user must have the qualification required since the 26th November 2015. If a product is applied to a crop in the field by an unqualified operator, that crop would then become non- assured as this a non-compliance and cannot be corrected.
Please remember under the SQC standard 2.9, all operators must undergo continual professional development (CPD) every Scheme Standard year by either participating in the annual SQC Sprayer Operators Course run by Ringlink on behalf of SQC or by being a member of the National Register of Spray Operators (NRoSO).
The remaining SQC Sprayer Operators Courses are listed below, please contact Caroline at Ringlink Services for more information and to book a place call 01561 376000 or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
